Dear Tom, You are correct....the Clan Donald DNA Project is amazing. But now I must make the link between our DNA results and the history I know. We are the only Donaldson's so far on our chart, so hopefully more male Donaldson's will join. Did you find a link there?
I am searching for ancestors of Alexander E. Donaldson, born in 1828, in Charleston,SC. He was sent to No.NJ aprox. 1840 to go to school. He served in the Mexican War and was a NJ Col. in the Civil War. Family lore states that
"the father died in the service of the Confederacy, the plantation and home in Charleston were destroyed in the war, the mother remarried taking the name of White, and a brother and sister moved to NYC."
None of the "lore" have I been able to prove after much research.
