Hi Julie,
Sorry but I don't know anything of Alfred Donbavand. My direct family line goes back through Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington.
The story about the Spanish Armada, sadly, is not true neither is the tale I was told growing up which was that two brothers from Spain settled in Manchester and that is how the name came to be in England.
I was also told that there was a painting in Manchester Art Gallery depicting these two brothers. This isn't true either.
There is a painting in Warrington Museum the artist being a D Donbavand. It is the oldest painting of Warrington. The Museum are very proud to have this painting.
The same D Donbavand also drew the first true scale maps of Warrington. They are for view in the Museum Archives. I believe that the Donbavand name originates in Warrington. It is just one of the variants ie: Dunbavin, Dubabin, Donbivin etc.
Good luck with your tree.
Brian.
