"The Bible was given as a gift to Samuel Henry Donehower by his parents, George C. Donehower and Martha A. Kinsman. This Donehower family originated in Gwynedd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (George C. was born there in 1833, son of Daniel) and in the 1830's moved to Hannibal, Missouri and the children almost surely would have known Mark Twain. Samuel Donehower was almost the exact age of a little Hannibal girl, Margaret Tobin, (later to be the "Unsinkable Molly Brown" --passenger, survivor and heroine of the Titanic tragedy) and they were almost certainly classmates in the early schools of Hannibal. Samuel Henry Donehower was born in Hannibal in 1868. There is a nice family register recording births, marriages and deaths of the family members. Samuel Henry Donehower who owned the Bible was living in Peoria, Illinois by 1910 and in Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio in 1920. I can't find him on the 1930 census so he may have died by then.

According to penciled information on the inside blank page, the Bible was given to Samuel on February 24, 1879 when he was 10 years old and there is a little inscription there of some sort. Samuel has also signed his name on the back blank page."
