Thomas Donnell, Guilford Co NC

Has anyone found the family of Thomas Donnell in Ireland? What connection, if any, are the other "forms" of Donnell for this particular family: McDonnell, MacDonnell, O'Donnell?
My earliest known ancestor was Thomas Donnell, born in Ireland 1710-1715, assumed to have been in Ulster. His family was from Scotland, perhaps having emigrated ca 1680. Thomas came to America (Pennsylvania) ca 1737--although I've been unable to find him there--where he married Jane Latham. My earliest record on him is his earliest land survey, Nov 1751 in Rowan Co NC (later Guilford Co.). Thomas' brothers are believed to have emigrated with him, William, Robert, and James. Thomas' children were, in order of birth, James, Hannah, John, William, Robert, Thomas, Andrew, George (my ancestor), Jane, Latham, and Alexander.

Any record of Thomas pre 1751 will be appreciated.
