1760-1763 Petition of Benjamin Donnell of York, Maine.
Province of the..To his Excell.y Francis Bernard Mass Bay Esq. Capt. General all of the Provinces. Etc.Benjamin Donnell of York in the county of York humbly sheweth,that he with his partner John Robinson have expended considerable ...... in building a house upon an island about two leagues westward of Mount Desert Hills of the contents of about one hundred and fifty acres and transporting the said John Robinson and his family whither who have lived there for some time and made improvements thereon. Presuming upon the(wonted) goodness and laudible intentions of the province in the incouraging of the settlement of those parts and the advantage that may thereby accrue. Wherefore the said Benjamin for himself and on the behalf of his said partner pray this court to make them a grant of the said island including about thirty acres more adjoining the same which at high water appears a distinct island from the former, tho but one at the ebb. Under such limitations and restrictions as this court in
their wisdom shall think fit, or otherwise to convey the same to them for such a sum of money as may be judged fit & reasonable, and your petitioners as in duty bound shall pay it.
