Rebecca:
My Great-grandfather was James O.Donnell in the 1840 US Census in Pa. In 1850 he was listed as James Donnell. His first son, John was born in 1836 and retained the name of Donnell. Sons James and Thomas went back to O'Donnell. John Donnell had an interesting Civil War history and died in 1895 in Pa. He married Joanna Ottey in 1860. They had four boys and two girls. Any interest?
Joe O'Donnell
