Perhaps someone here can straighten me out on this...
From the NEHGS site, VR's of York Co., ME and from the Rev. Joseph "Handkerchief" Moody's own diary (I have a copy of a book that was written on this), there is mention of a "Capt." Nathaniel DONNELL in all three places.
The NEHGR has a Capt. and then Col. Nathaniel DONNELL as being in the battle at Louisburg in 1745. He had his own army of men etc.
Then the VR's of York Co., ME state that a "Capt." Nathaniel Donnell and Elizabeth Todd daughter of John Todd of Rowley, MA, had 3 children born in York, Elizabeth in 1721, Nathaniel born in 1724 and Thomas born in 1731.
This couple also had children born in Rowley, MA, Benjamin b. 1714 and probably others who I don't have.
THIS Capt. Nathaniel Donnell is my 7th grt. grandfather and he was a son of Thomas Donnell (Henry 1) and Elizabeth Weare.
The other Nathaniel Donnell was married to Hannah PREBLE (daughter of John Preble of York) and Nathaniel was a son of Samuel Donnell (Henry 1) and Alice Chadbourne (Samuel, brother to Thomas mentioned above).
What I am trying to find out is if it was either of these Nathaniel's who served in the Seige of Louisbourg or yet Another Capt./Col. Nathaniel Donnell?
Thank you for any info.
