Aaron Joseph Donovan was the grandson of Cornelius Donovan, who was a contemporary of your John Donovan in Renous. Cornelius and John were likely cousins of some sort but without pre-immigration information from Ireland it's impossible to be more precise. In McDonald's paper he refers to your John Donovan family as one of the "other early Donovan families" in the Renous/Blackville area.
Aaron Joseph Donovan was the brother of my grand-father Francis Henry Donovan. Their father was John C Donovan (1827-1890). This is a different branch of the family from the John Donovan you are researching.
When I used them last year Duchas charged C$400 for 9 to 10 hours research, which enabled a pretty thorough review of the available records. I believe they will do a quick assessment of the feasiblity of your search without charge. After that, if you want to proceed, they will start work when your cheque clears. The owner of the firm is Tom O'Leary.
Incidentally, I was in Clonakilty last summer and it seemed every second shop or pub was owned by a Donovan (actually "O'Donovan" now in Ireland) so that is definitely in the right part of the country.
