Wow, other people have my last name. I've never met anyone with my last name before. Anyway, just wanted to give you some history. My paternal grandfather, John Doolan was either born in Canada, or came over from Ireland during the potato famine. I'm not quite sure (he was 60 when my dad was born; I'm 20, and he died long before I was born). Regardless, I know for sure that his parents came from Ireland (I have no idea what their names were). The Doolan family settled in Wolfe Island, Ontario (near Kingston) and started a family farm. My grandfather worked for the railway company (Canadian National, I think) in the 20s and 30s. With his first wife, he had two children (my dad's half sister (Louise) and half brother (don't know his name)). When he married my grandmother, they had three children (Daniel (my dad), Mary Catherine (Cathy), and Bridget). My aunt Bridget had two children (Brian and Heidi Hoover) and I'm my father's only child (Aunt Cathy married, but didn't have children). I'm the last person in my family that could carry on the family name (I'll probably keep my name if I get married).
