Coat of Arms

I am looking for information on our Families Coat of Arms. I am familiar with the version featuring the Unicorn with a thisel in it's mouth, the red and green shield with the 3 circles of white, the moto "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" or "No on attacks us with impunity" from the Order of the Thisel at the bottom.
Question; Does anyone know what the 3 circles of white signify? Also, is this a Scottish or English version? Is this the oldest version, are there others, and where can I get more detailed information?
Thank you to anyone able to help.
