Dear Jean,

While I certainly appreciate your efforts at emailing me, and I love the fact that we are, undoubtedly, distant cousins, I must tell you I believe you have a few mistakes in your info. First, if only by the strongly observed Dutch naming traditions, I really feel David was David J. (named after John, his father)Doremus, rather than Isaac. Secondly, the birth date you sent me for John was actually his marriage date (9 June, 1811). He was born 31 Dec., 1789, Preakness, NJ. I also have Preakness listed as the birthplace for David, but perhaps this is wrong. As a matter of fact, I believe I used to have it recorded as Tappan, and I do think you're probably right on this. Perhaps I later just re-copied it wrong.

Eliza Mary Powers was born circa 1814, NY. She died 28 Sept. 1890, NYC - not earlier, as erroneously reported in the reprinted Doremus genealogy. Eliza's parents were John Powers and Ellen ---. Ellen was born in NY. John's birthplace was not recorded as US, so I think he was probably born in Ireland, but I do not know this for sure. Eliza Mary Powers married David J. Doremus on (either September or November) 24, 1834, in NY.

Is YOUR Johannes Van Houten the father of Elizabeth (1759 - 1822), the bride of David C. Doremus (1751- 1799)? I suspect he is not, but I certainly hope he is!!!

I see now, looking over again your message, you are descended from a Cornelis who was the brother of Johannes. Am I right?

Not that it matters - just curious - but are you, by any chance, in NYC, as I am?

Jannetje Joris was born 1652, Arnemuyden, Laar, Holland. She died in NJ. Her father is believed to have bene Joris Mathyssen, born c. 1626, and her motyher is believed to have been Hubrechtje Jans, born c. 1630.

Well, cousin, it's been nice "chatting" back and forth with you. I hoep, in some way, I've been helpful to you. If you feel like it,I'd enjoy hearing rom you again.
