I'm trying to solve a little mystery. My gg grandmother was Susan Reaumur Doremus (1835 - 1908 - parents Davit Doremus and Peg / Marguerite Reaumur), and I have enough on her to create a mini-series. I'm wondering if anyone has any information on what became of her brother Simeon Doremus? He was evidently born around 1840, married Maria A? and had two daughters, Cora (b 1867) and Dela (b 1869). We have speculated that he might have followed his sister to Australia. He seems to have disappeared from the face of the Earth after 1870.
My g grandmother (Susan's daughter) wrote in 1939 that "Susan's brother" (ie Simeon) had in his possession the family papers that detail the Reaumur family's flight from France during the Revolution. Finding these would be a major breakthrough in tracing this side of the family, and confirm my gg grandmother's connection to Reaumur, the famous French scientist of the 18th Century. Would love to hear from anyone with info.
