This is what I have. The Doremus family was French, the last name probably being "De Reihms," (spelling?)It means "golden one."They emigrated to Holland in the 1670s or so, probably to escape Catholic persecution.(They were Protestants, understand.)
Cornelius, the son of Henrich Doremus (1650-1715), is the one who made the move.He married Janneke Joris in Arnemuyden, Holland and then moved to Middleburg, Holland.Cornelius and Janneke also moved to The United States eventually.Their children are Cornelius Jr., Johannes, Thomas, Jannetje, Joris, Marretie, and Hendrick.Thomas and Johannes married the Ackerman sisters.
I hope this helps!
