Dorey is a French name spelled Dore or Dare!
Dorey was a spelling derived here in Canada
By the English to phase out french names and
bring settlers from other countries with foran sounding names into the fold of english speaking canada.
Your search would take some interesting turns if you considered the possibility that
William was the son of a Canadian soldier or
the like I had a great grand uncle named William died in the 1890s he had a son william.
