I have done quite a bit of research regarding the dornan name in Ireland, including some travel there to invesitgate further. My own leg of the family is from Ballynahinich, Co. Down. Dornan is the orignal as far as I can tell, with derivatives ranging from Doran, to Dorman, to Dorning, with some French flavors thrown in for good measure. As far as I have been able to discern, the Dornan families in Irealnd and scotland all share the same roots in the Geals name Daanan.
