I asked for a gen forum site for the Dornberger surname and here it is!!!! I know there is not a lot of us out there but I hope that those that are will visit this site and help with the research. To get the ball rolling I will list information I have concerning by Dornberger connections. Have fun.
My information comes from family records and census records.
My great-great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Dornberger immigrated from the Hesse-Darmstaat area of Germany abt.1837. Nicholas married Magdalenna (Matti)Horn probably in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pa. about 1837. Magdalenna was born in Grindstone Hill, Franklin Co., Pa., in 1805 and died in Chambersburg in July of 1867. I have been unable to trace Nicholas to Hesse-Darmstadt in Germany. I am unfamilier with resources availiable in Germany and I am hoping others with better skills and experience will help with this. I do believe that Hesse was a type of State and Darmstadt may have been a town.
Nicholas and Magdalenna had the following children, all born in Chambersburg:
1. Lewis b. 1838
2. Augustus b. 1840
3. Sarah b. 1843
4. Nicholas b. 1846 d. 1852
5. Peter b. September 22, 1849 m. Virginia (Clara) Hassler on December 17, 1867 in Chambersburg, and d. May 27, 1935 in Chambersburg. Peter was my Great-Great-Grandfather.
Peter's wife Virginia Hassler was the daughter of John Hassler b. March 29, 1810 in Mont Alto, Quincy Tp., Franklin Co., Pa. John was the son of Johannes Hassler b. 1785 in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. and Elizabeth and Johannes was the son of Casper Hassler b. September 25, 1757 at Swamp Church, Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. and had a wife Elizabeth. Casper was the son of Abraham Casper who immigrated to America before 1757 probably from Germany with his wife Anna and settled at Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co.,Pa. Abraham had two sons I know of, Casper and Abraham b. January 29, 1759 m. Catrina Waldshchmidt 1786 and died May 15, 1832.

Peter Dornberger and Virgina had the following children:
1. Calvin b. 1868 m. Nancy in Kansas abt 1898.
2. Sophie b. August 1869 in Chambersburg
3. Clara b. abt 1870 in Chambersburg
4. Charlie Irwen b. October 19, 1871 m. Viola Maude Reese in Dickenson or Clay Co. Kansas in 1895.

7. Thomas b. 1878 in Waynesboro
8. Harley b. abt 1878 in Waynesboro
9. Rhoda Bell b. abt 1879 in Waynesboro.

Charlie Irwin Dornberger when he was about 18 years old left Pa. and traveled West to Kansas abt 1890 and went to school at the Agricultural College at Abiline, Kansas.
Charlie and Viola had the following children:
1. Bertha May Dornberger b. 1897 in Abilene, Dickenson Co., Kansas m. Gene Thomas
2. Rena Bell Dornberger b. July 24, 1898
Abilene Ka. m. Edward Ruthland Whitney on December 25, 1919 in Chewela, Stevens Co., Wa. Edward Whitney's son Richard (Dick) Whitney was my father.
