JOHN ANSON DORNBURG OF MICHIGAN
Posted by: Hylon Heaton III (ID *****9670) Date: February 19, 2004 at 18:25:58

John Anson Dornburg b. 1852 in Onida Co. Ny or 2rd source says he was born 1851 in Middleburgh, Schoharie Co. Ny. It has been passed down that his mother's maiden name was Catherine ?? and that she had been married twice. Neither of her husbands were living when she made the move to Michigan. Based on the 1820 Fed. Census for Middleburgh, Schoharie Co. Ny, I believe Simon Dornburg to be the grandfather of John Anson Dornburg. In the 1850 Census for Oneida Co. Paris Twp. Ny there is a family headed by John Dorinburgh age 40. His wife is Catherine Dorninburgh and in the housefold is a six year old girl Caroline Holenbeck. From this I believe the following: 1) That John Dorninburgh is one of the 10 year old sons listed with Simon Dornburg in the 1820 Census mention above. 2) That Catherine first married a Mr. Holenbeck and they had a daughter Caroline Holenbeck. Mr. Holenbeck died and she married a second time to a John Dorninburg, a blacksmith in Paris twp Oneida Co. Ny. 3) They then had a son John Anson Dornburg after the 1850 census (1851/52). Husband John Dorinburgh then died and 4) Catherine Dorninburg moved with her son John Anson to Detroit, Michigan and became a well educated person according to family records. John Anson Dornburg moves to North Boyne City, Mi. and marries Evaline Linette Mix 5 October 1853. What happened to sister Caroline Holenbeck. I believe that she stayed in Hartford, Oneida Co. Ny and as a 16year old in the 1860 Fed census is working for Alfred Blackstone. A age 36, 1880 Fed Census she is working as a servant for Albert Richard in Middleburghm Schoharia Co. Ny.. What happened to mother Catherine Dorninburgh(Dornburg) Did she die while visiting daughter CAroline? Did she die in Michigan and then was buried in Ny with her first or second husband? Anyway she is not in any Fed Census after 1850 and there are no death or burial records in Michigan. Yes, I have a lot to prove. Can anyone out there help me. docheaton@netzero.net
