My great-great grandmother was Margaret Doerner born ABT 1828 in Ilbeshiem, Germany to John and Elizabeth Doerner. She married John George Kolb in 1854 and immigrated to the US on their wedding trip. They settled in the Binghamton, New York area. Margaret had a sister named Julia? and a brother named William. William F. Doerner was born in Ilbesheim on April 16, 1830. He was the oldest son of John and Elizabeth Doerner. He came to the US in 1848. He enlisted in the Civil War in Sept 1861 as a private in Co. A, 9th Wisconsin Infantry. This information was obtained from a hand written family history prepared by my grandmother as well as William F. Doerner's Obituary.
I don't know if there is any relationship between your Johan and the Doerner's I've described. I tend to think that there is a link there. I've travelled to Ilbeshiem while stationed in Germany (I'm in the Army). It's just a tiny little town near Landau. Unfortunately, I didn't do any research while there. William's western immigration to Wisconson, at least puts him out near Nebraska. William's obituary gives some more detail, if you'd like a copy, just send me an e-mail.
Please let me know what you think.
