Mr. Dorrough, My Husband is the Grandson of Teala Mae Magdalene Dorough-Daughter of Harmon Norris Dorough, b. 1879 in AR. He disappeared when she was only 3 yrs old and she never saw him again. Her mother, Artie May Sharp, told her he died. They lived in Ar. for awhile and then in Grand Saline, Tx., where Artie was born. Harmon was an Indian man with black hair, braids, brown eyes and a very small stature, as is evidenced in both WWI and WWII draft registrations. He had children with at least 3 women that I can identify, but I cannot find anything else concrete about him. Records of birth were not kept during that time. He didn't even know his own place of birth or date for that matter. The family bible puts him b. in 1881 and the draft regs. in 1878 and 79 depending on when you asked him. He refused to admit to anyone but family that he was indian, and he would not cooperate with the government in any way. He is even listed as a negro in one of the census reports, which I was told by a Historian in Ar., was common during that time. I know he had a son named H.N. Dorough in Van Zandt, Grnd Saline, TX. in 1912, I got this from Vital STATs there. He was in the Military at one point. He is dead now. He also had a daughter named Hazel with a woman named Merle, I believe. Our Grandmother had a sister named Anna Lee that was also his child, and I see from his cemetery records that he went on to marry a woman named Jessie and had a son named James M. Dorough. That makes at least 5 children that I can account for. Any thoughts on how we became Irish????????????????? If you read his draft regs. it clearly states that his identifying marks say that he is VERY DARK. Not Irish I don't suppose. HEE HEE. Would loooooooooooooooove to have a copy of that book at any cost. Write back.........Micci L. Lamb Wife of Alan Randall Lamb, son of Billie Rae Goddard, daughter of Teala Mae Dorough, daughter of Harmon Norris Dorough.
