William Dossett (spelled Dossit in the record) married Drucilla Forrester, daughter of Benajmin Forreser, in the last two days in December 1783 or early 1784.A marriage license was issued on December 30, 1783, Orange County, North Carolina Marriages. The Will of Benjamin Forrester, signed November 5, 1800, proved February 1801, identifies one of his daughters as Drucilla Dossett, wife of William Dossett.A witness to the Will was Waler Alves. One of the executors of Philip Dossett's Will was Benjamin Forrest (which is another form of the surname Forrester).I have not found a record stating that the William who was the son of Philip and the William who married Drucilla are one and the same, I am confident that they are the same person.Has anyone found or have a record which proves the link?
?GOODSPEED’S BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF THE RESIDENTS OF CAMPBELL COUNTY, TENNESSEE, 1887, states in part:
Alfred Dosset was born in Campbell County January 18, 1813, and is the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Willoughby) Dossett. The father was born in North Carolina in 1787, and was the son of William Dossett, a native of North Carolina, who immigrated to Tennessee in 1804, and settled in Powell’s Valley, Campbell County, at a time when the Indians were in full force. At that time the county was a vast cane brake and forest, and the life of the hardy pioneers was full of trials and tribulations.Robert, the father, followed in the footsteps of his sire, and was a farmer. . .
The wife of the William who migrated to Tennessee is not identified by Goodspeed, so we do not know for sure that the William who was the father of Robert and the William who married Drucilla are one and the same (has anyone found a record establishing the link?).Note, in 1803 the William Dossett who was the son of Philip sold all the land he owned in Orange County, N.C., and a William Dossett immigrated to Tennessee in 1804.
It is beleived that William and Drucilla had at least 3 children:Philip Dossett (married Tempy Coleman in 1806 in Orange County, North Carolina), Robert Dossett (born about 1789 in Orange County, N.C. and died May 12, 1979 in Campbell Co., Tennessee) and Edmund Dossett, born about 1791 in Orange County, died July 18, 1873, Campbell County, Tennessee.
