Buddy, thank you for your indepth research of the Dossett surname history. Most Dossetts are not aware of their possible lineage; your contribution is most helpful.

Burdette, my original posting stated French Hugonauts were Protestant, not Catholic, who were greatly influenced by John Calvin circa mid 1500. French Catholics massacred thousands of Protestants leading to over 200,000 Hugonauts to flee France and settle in other Europeon countries and America.

French Acadians, and Hugonauts, were victims of the Great Expulsion. More than 14,000 Acadians/Hugonauts (three-quarters of the Acadian/Hugonaut population in Nova Scotia) were expelled, their homes burned and their lands confiscated. Families were split up, and the Acadians were deported throughout the British colonies in New England; thousands were transported to France.

Thank you for your contribution to this discussion.

My family lineage can be traced to Greenbrier Co. Virginia 1801, but I cannot document prior family history; still searching.
