Dr. Anthony P. Dostie was born in 1821 Saratoga,New York. His parents were John Oliver and Phoebe Dostie. His father was from France. Also found the following story. In New Orleans, 1866, during the "Reconstruction Era", at the Mechanics Institute, then being used as the statehouse,
Dr. Anthony Paul Dostie, a white Dentist, was killed there during the riot that occurred.. A Unionist and true Radical Republican,
he came to New Orleans sometime before the Civil War. He openly and loudly opposed sucession and the Confederacy
and was an outspoken advocate of African-American enfranchisement and civil rights. An extremely controversial figure,
Dostie was a particular object of the mob's rage. He was shot in the spine and received a swordthrust in his stomach
during the uprising. It was reported "Dr. Dosie was mortally wounded, then dragged through the gutters and finally thrown
on a trash heap, around which the assassins danced and shouted hurrahs for Jefferson Davis"
New Orleans Tribune.
