I am searching for the parents of my ancestor, Henry Doubleday, born 15 Aug, 1838
in New York or Vermont; married Louisa Victoria Streeter on 2 May, 1862 in the Town
of Lamartine, Fon du Lac County, Wisconsin; served in the 18th Wisconsin Infantry
from 1864 to 1865; and died 10 March, 1905 in Waupun, Fon du Lac County, Wisconsin.
Henry did not identify his parents or provide details of his childhood. I suspect
that he may be the Henry Doubldee or Doubledeu listed twice in the U.S. Census of
1850 for New York: In the Town of Newfane(June), at age 11, in the family of George(died
1875) and Elizabeth Van Ostrand (Visit #288); and in the Town of Cambria(September
1), at age 12, in the family of Hiram McNeal (Visit #382). I suspect that this
Henry's parents are Nathan and Hanah Doubleday listed in the same census in the
Town of Hartland (Visit #102).       I did not find Henry listed in any U.S. census of
1860. Hiram McNeal's 1861 probate records do not mention Henry. Does anyone have
information about Henry or these families that can help to identify my ancestor's
parentage? Thank you.
