A Benjamin Doubleday b. about 1734 was the brother of John Doubleday "a marriner," according to Margaret Curfman's Doubleday Families of America. If this is the correct Benjamin (the only one listed in Margaret's research), he was the son of Elijah and Sarah (Paine) Doubleday. Benjamine d. 2 Sep 1784, age 50 years, and was buried in Copps Hill Cemetery, Boston, near the burial place of his mother. He married Mary ___ and resided in Newport and Providence, RI, prior to the Revolutionary War. Mary, his wife, was born about 1746, according to her declaration of 10 Nov 1831, when she stated she was in her 86th year. Benjamin Doubleday is listed in Mass. Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolution, Vol IV, p. 896, as "age 46 in 1780 when he enlisted; stature 5'7", complexion brown; occupation, carpenter."
Benjamin and Mary had six children but only two lived to maturity: Deborah who m. Restcome Porter of Westport RI and Mary, unmarried in 1831.
Benjamin's lineage would be Elijah3, Elijah2, Roger1.
