Researching my Joseph Doughty in SC who was born ca 1755 i have some old land plats from SC..... One shows a James Dottey with land next to James Brown who got his land in 1784..... James Dottey shows up next to this Brown land so James could have got his earlier.......near this land and on the same creek - Flat Branch in the Camden District of SC there is a Samuel Dotty..... I think this Samuel ran a dry goods store with a fellow named Brisbane...I suspect this James and Samuel were kin......and there seems to be records to be had in SC regarding Samuel, but not much on James.........makes one wonder what happened to him??
**************Following up on my reply back in 2002 - I did find out who the Loyalist Daniel Doughty/Doty was - He turned out to be Daniel Manning Doty/Doughty from NC that came down into SC to fight for the British so most likely not any relation to James Doughty. joe [email protected]
