Jerry,

I believe that the correct spelling is Laban. It's a name found in the bible.

Did you find the spelling Laben in a document somewhere?

Also, Have you any information regarding the birthplace of Joseph Doughty, Sr.? My best guess is that it was either NJ, NC, or SC. I'd love to find a deed or will to verify parentage.
