My Dowds lived in Savannah for a while. My mom was born there. however that is not where the Dowd's originated from. Before Savannah my Dowds lived in Cobbtown for a few generations and before that possibly washington county, then possibly Warren county, and then before that most likely NC. I am still trying to prove all of that but it is slow going. Here is my line for sure.

Me- Original name Boogie Moon Dowd b. 1986 in Rock Hill SC
My mom- Janice Dowd b. 1960 in Savannah GA
My grandfather- Therman Paul Dowd b 1928 in Cobbtown GA
My g. grandfather Nalder L Dowd b 1901 in cobbtown GA
My gg grandfather James Milton Dowd b 1867 in possibly washington or warren county GA.

Those are the things i know for sure. here is the well researched guess work.

James Milton Dowd was the son of William Dowd or one of his sisters. He is listed as William's son on a 1880 census. Williams sisters also live in the home. Now the reason i have doubts about the truthfulness of this census is that it also list another boy as William's son. At the time William was 30 and the boy was 18. Possible but unlike that a 12 year old fathered a child, even in those times. My guess is that the boys actually belong to one of the unmarried sisters and it was being covered up. Well regardless of which of the siblings James belongs to his grandparents will be the same.

The parents that make the most sense for William(1848ish) and his two sisters(1839ish and 1840ish) are a David (1814) and Catherine (1810) Dowd. There are two census records that show David and catherine having children named William, Margaret, and Sarah (along with many others) and all have the right birthyears.

David is from North Carolina and Catherine is from Georgia.

I have not figured out who David's parents are. I heard through the grapevine that it was a John Dowd but I don't trust information unless I am at least 95% sure and I can find nothing to link any of the John Dowds from NC to David Dowd from NC.

Also, Nalder had a number of brothers and sisters but most of them stayed close to Cobbtown. And he had a number of children too and I'm not sure where they lived. Their names are:
Lucille (married name Kirkland)
Milton (died as toddler)
Talmadge
Jaunita (married name Wilson)
Edward (living)
Dollamae (living) (not sure of spelling)
Luto D. "LD"
and my grandfather Therman Paul

I believe that is all of them...
