Dowd's of Claremorris

It's been a while since I've been here - almost 10 years. I thought I'd touch base and say hello. My Dowd (or O'Dowd) is from Claremorris, Mayo. Great grandfather, Patrick, (b1867,d1948) came to NYC - don't know exactly when - guess as teenager - as his son David (b1890,d1968) was born in NYC. Patrick lies in St. Raymond's cemetery in Bronx, NY. Son David is in Pinelawn Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. David's son, and my father, also named David (b1924,d2010) is also in Pinelawn. Some of my earlier postings can be found via search. Patrick had 10 or so siblings, some who also came to NY. The Claremorris farm (~70acres is a guess) was outside Claremorris - and was owned by (another) David (aka Joe) O'Dowd who died ~2000 while bicycling from town to his home. As I understand, Joe rented his farm, was involved in raising prize cattle, and took care of his Aunt Celia (early 1960s) from whom he inherited some wealth. Celia was my great grandfather Patrick's sister. She came to NYC (after Patrick) and lived in the Bronx, NY where she was able to accumulate real estate. As she got older, she was deemed incompetent and committed to Creedmore Asylum in NYC. She was able to get a letter out to her nephew to came to NYC and took her back to Claremorris. I visited Joe in Claremorris in the late 1980s. A gracious man, but somewhat eccentric; as although I think he had wealth, he lived frugally. Upon his death, I think his estate passed to his sister's family. As the story goes, Joe did not approve of his sister's spouse, and thus had a strained relationship. I never met her. I understand her children (or grand children) have done well in the building business. I'd like to meet them someday - just need to find them. That's it for now. I've updated my email address.
