Oliver Dowd, Rhode Island 1860's

Looking for any information on Oliver Dowd, lived either in Warwick or East Greenwich, Rhode Island in the mid 1860's. He enlisted with the 1st Rhode Island Cavalry in 1861 but was discharged in 1862 due to sickness. He then surfaced in 1862 with the 7th Rhode Island Infantry and was wounded at the battle of Fredricksburg, Virginia. He married Mary Jane Rathbun - sister of my 2Gr grandfather. I may have a photo of Oliver Dowd with William Rathbun (2Gr Granduncle). Belive this photo is being used in a book about the 7th Rhode Island, and the chap with William Rathbun is unidentified. I am trying to verify his identity.
