I'm not sure if your family could be related to mine, but my husband's ggggrandfather was a John Dowd, born in 1755 in Bladen county, from which Duplin county was created. I haven't been able to trace anything beyond his date of birth from the Daughters of the Revolution pension records. He eventually moved to GA around 1830 to get land in the Cherokee Land lottery. He settled in Warren county. According to census records his son David was born in NC.,along with a son William and a daughter named Jane (all born in the early 1800's).
I'd love to be able to find further info on John Dowd's ancestry. If you think our two John Dowds may be related in some way, contact me and I'll be glad to share information.
