Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
Following is an article I read in today's paper. Our local paper lists things that happend 25 years ago, 50 years ago, and 140 years ago. This is from 140 years ago:
DIED, In Silver City, last night at 10 o'clock, Mr. Dowdle, the man who was shot by Casper Haupt, in a fracas, last Sunday. Mr. Haupt, who was severaly wounded in the groin by Dowdle, at the time, is still in a very precarious condition. Gold Hills (Nev.) News, May 17
The subject of this obituary was undoubtedly John Dowdle, well-known in Owyhee for a year or two as a blustering, dissipated character, - always more or less in trouble. He went from here to Montana in '66 and since returned to the land of Washoe zephyrs, from whence he has made another journey as above stated. He was a native of Canada and about 30 years old.
