Dear Margaret, am hoping you can help me with a John Dowdell. There seems to be some confusion about his parentage. If his parents were James Dowdell and Ethel Hall then he was born on 9 may 1807, if parents were John Dowdell and Sarah Bradshaw then he was born on 13 February 1809. I'd really like to narrow the field if I can, if not then I have no choice but to research both sets of parents. What I do know for sure is that my John Dowdell married Catherine O'Neill at Wicklow on 10 August 1835. They were to emigrate to Australia to join Catherines father William but tragically John died. Catherine brought her three sons John, William and Maurice out to Australia on her own. If any of these names mean anything to you I'd love to make contact.
