Dear William,
Thank you so much for responding.I have a copy of the will of James Dowdell. What I would like to find out, is if there are wills left by any of his children. Slavery didn't end unto 1865, and in James Dowdells will his the slaves were passed on to his children. My direct line was bequeath to his daughter Louisa J Dowdell. I don't know if or who she married, nor if she had a will. Do you know if any of his children had wills and where they might be located? Thank You again for responding. You can e-mail me at

Regards, Gayle
