A.G. Dowdell in Auburn, Alabama

I found a book that is a training manual for the Confederate Army (Manual of Instruction of the Volunteers and Militia of the Confederate States), that has the name A.G Dowdell in it. He wrote his name several times and the full name looks like Algeman (or Algerman) George Dowdell of Auburn Alabama, dated Oct 1st 1861. I was wondering if any of you have any info about him.
