DOWLEY--pronounced 'Dooley'. Maurice J. DOWLEY b. April 1844 Ireland to Maurice (from Co. Waterford, Ireland)and Mary (Walch-from Tipperary, Ireland) Dowley, married second Ellen "Aunt Nell" (Mullen) Leason. Maurice J.'s brother's (known of) were Thomas, Michael and one or two others. He had first been married to Julia M. Pease. He had one daughter, Mary S. DOWLEY (no further info)with Julia, in 1870, before Julia died. Aunt Nell lost Mr. Leason (1st. name unk), they had one daughter, Evelyn "Eva" C. Leason b. 1875 Crawford Co., MO (married James E. Mullen--a cousin???--and lived in Columbus, OH at 155 N. Monroe;know of one child, Margaret, no further info). We do not know what happened to Julia or Mr. Leason. Maurice and Aunt Nell then had eight children together;Nora F. (married Edmund Wells and lived in St. Louis with Nellie for awhile and then was home with Aunt Nell, without her husband??--no mention of divorce or children, no further info), Infant, Nellie B. (married to Ed Chapman, son of John;know of one child Edward J. Chapman, no further info), Maurice Joseph Jr. (not married, lived in Cuba, MO, no further info), Catherine Agnes (lived in St. Louis, MO and married a man name of Schweisz -- no further ifo), Thomas Patrick (lived with Eva for awhile in Columbus, OH --don't know if he married or not, no further info), Marguerite F. (married a man name of Mraz and lived in Canton, OH --she died near Wilmington, OH in car crash in 1971, no further info) and James "Edwin" (married to Ellen, lived in Cuba, MO, don't know if had children, no further info). As you can see, I am totally stumped on Maurice J. and Aunt Nell's children. On the 1900 Crawford Co., MO census, Aunt Nell told the census taker that she had nine children, eight don't know if this counted Mary S. Dowley and she had died or if she just counted her own children's births and the dead infant. Anyway, there are people in St. Louis, MO, who have quite a DOWLEY tree going, but they have never heard of my Maurice J. Although, every account of the DOWLEY family in Cuba, MO points to my Maurice J. being son and brother to the DOWLEY's they have in their records. Aunt Nell died Sept. 1940 and her obit shows that Maurice J. died 19 years before she did and that she had seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren at the time of her death. So, Maurice J. and Aunt Nell (Mullen) DOWLEY have descendants out there, somewhere. Aunt Nell and her siblings, plus Maurice J. and his siblings were raised Catholic. Somebody out there knows where all of this gigantic family is hiding at and I certainly could use all the help I can get.
Your efforts are most deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance. LiRae
