I think I am in touch with your brother already and we are comparing the information we have to see where we agree and where we are different.
As far as I know there are four main Draffin lines in Australia and I have not found any proof yet that they can all be linked together - there are two lines descended from two brothers from Co Cavan in Ireland and you are in one of these, there is another which descends from a Co Down Draffin who arrived in Australia after marrying in Scotland, and there is my line which descends from a man born near Ballybay in Co Monaghan, but who lived in Co Cavan and his family moved to Australia. I have not found evidence which joins them together yet.
There seem to be two theories on the origins of the name and where it came from. One is that it is Scottish because there was a village called Draffan and a ruined castle of the same name, and also early records of "Draffans" signing documents. The other is that it came over with the Hugenots during all the religious persecutions. Who knows. The Draffins seem to always have been farmers and it is only the "gentry" who bothered to keep any sort of recorded history.
My genealogy stuff is at home (and my email is at work) so I will have a look for your name tonight to see where you fit in.
