Dear Draughon/Draughan Researchers:
Hello. My name is Zane D. Perry. I have been working on my Perry genealogy for 15 years, and only recently made the connection of my 5Ggrandfather Abraham Perry of Bertie Co. NC (ca. 1735 - May 1788) with his father John Perry of Bertie Co. NC (ca. 1710 - ca. 1780).
My 6Ggrandfather John Perry was married to a Sarah __?__, and they owned an extensive amount of land in Bertie County along the Chowan River in the area now known as Perrytown, just south of Colerain North Carolina. John and Sarah Perry had sons Job, Silas, George, Abial, Abraham (my ancestor), John, and several daughters. After signing the Oath of Allegiance to the Colonies against King George III in 1777 in Bertie County, John Perry left Bertie County and went to old Craven County South Carolina, where he made out his Will in late 1777. I am positive this is the same John Perry, for all of the childrens' names match those given in Bertie County. John Perry did not die in 1777 either -- he seemed to be making out his Will "just in case something happened".
In his 1777 Will in Craven County South Carolina, John Perry mentioned his "nephew Abial Draughan of Halifax County, North Carolina", wherein John Perry deeded Abial Draughan some land.
Question: Do any of you have any information indicating who Abial Draughan of Halifax County would have been the son of? I have reason to believe that John Perry of Bertie/Craven may have had parents who went to Halifax County in the early 1700s (possibly John and Elizabeth Perry, since they were the first Perrys to purchase land in present-day Bertie and since there is a Will for a John Perry in 1752/probated 1758 in Halifax County). I would like to know how Abial Draughan was a nephew to John Perry of Bertie/Craven. Perhaps John's sister (a Perry) married a Draughan? Perhaps John's wife Sarah used to be a Draughan? Perhaps John's wife Sarah was a sister to Abial Draughan's mother? I am fairly sure that John Perry had a brother Benjamin Perry who went to Kershaw County South Carolina and a brother Thomas Perry who went to Lancaster County South Carolina, as well as brothers Jacob Perry, Joseph Perry, William Perry, and possibly others. Any help that any one of you may give will certainly be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
