Dear Michelle: It looks as if I have not responded to your posting about the Dreesens in Nebraska, and I cannot explain why. I messed up somehow, and I am sorry. I realize it has been a long time since you wrote to GenForum about our common ancestors, so I hope you do not mind getting my response at this very late date.
I am so sorry to hear about the death of your father. I knew him. He has been an enormous help to me in my research. I was wondering about him, because the last time I visited them, they were still on that place east of Hartington, and were getting ready to to back south. I forget where it was that they called home there. I hope your mother is doing all right.
I am a descendant of Peter Dreesen, brother to the Matt who married Maude (Suing), so we are indeed cousins! I do have quite a bit of information about the Dreesens, but am always anxious for more. Your dad had been very kind to me and had taken me out to the Peter Dreesen homestead place where I at least got one of the stones from the foundation of the old house there, now long gone. The Matt Dreesen place was just to the north of the Peter Dreesen homestead.
My great-grandfather Peter Dreesen, son of Theodore and Agnes (Muxen) Dreesen, married Catherine Suing of St. Helena. Catherine was Maude's older sister. Brothers married sisters, so we are doubly related. I have a lot of info on the Suings, too, but always want more.
It was so good of you to write, and so bad of me not to respond. Let's get our information together. I know what you mean about becoming interested in our family history. I love the research and meeting new relatives! Please write back if and when you read this.
Oh...I had better fill you in on the rest of my connection. Peter and Catherine Dreesen had a family of five, one of whom was Madeline. She is my grandmother. She married Matt Kneifl, and they also had five children. My father, Roy,was the oldest. He married Rose Beacom, and they had nine children. I am the oldest: Judith Ann Kneifl. I am now 67 years old and live in Lincoln, Nebraska. My husband's name is Albert Schrader. I hope to hear from you. Judy
