Dear Mike,

My grandmother, Anna-Marie Drieth (that's how she spelled it) also came over from Beideck, Russia in 1904 or 05. As I'm sure you know, she was part of the Volga Germans (Wolga Deutsche) invited in by Catherine the Great to teach the Russians German farming methods. She settled in Hastings, NE, and was part of the Evangelical Lutheran church there (the Drieths in Beideck were part of the Evangelical Lutheran church there as well, our family has a hymn book and Bible). She married my grandfather, August Gross, also from Beideck. They later moved to Globeville, a section of Denver, CO.

Our Volga German family history is detailed in a book called "Wir Wollen Deutsche Bleiben" by George J. Walters. Our family would enjoy meeting yours. Did you also know that Ben Dreith, the former NFL referee ("Big Ben") is part of our Dreith family?

Hope to hear back from you.

Ed Gross
