I presume that you are referencing the Finis R. and Martha J. Cannon who filed for a homestead northeast of Phillipsburg, KS on 11/4/1873. If so, you might be interested to know that one of my maternal great-grandmothers was Mary Emmaline Drennan Judd, born near Marion, Crittenden County, KY. She and her husband, Columbus Lee Judd, and children moved from near Fredonia, Caldwell County, KY to Greenwood Township, Phillips County, KS in 1883. Fredonia is about ten miles from Marion, KY.

My mother indicated in a genealogy notebook that Mary Emmaline Drennan's father and mother were Charles and Susan Drennan, who presumably are the same people as the Charles Drennan and Susan Gossett referenced in your 4/18/02 posting.

If all this actually ties together, it is likely that Charles Drennan's parents were Samuel and Celia Greer Drennan. Samuel was the son of William and Mary Thomas Drennan, who moved from the Pendleton District of SC to what became Caldwell County, KY in 1803. All of the William Drennan family, except for Samuel, moved to what became Madison County, IL in 1817, and to what became Sangamon County, IL in 1818. Samuel Drennan stayed in Caldwell County, raised a family, and later died there.

If indeed we are talking about the same Charles and Susan Drennan, it would indicate that Mary Emmaline Drennan Judd and Martha Jane Drennan Cannon were sisters. Incidently, my great-grandmother's brother, Albert Drennen (spelled with an "e"), also came to Phillips County, KS.
