Jean - I keep getting "Message undeliverable" when replying to your message. E-mail me and write your address in it and I'll send you the address for Barbara's family. Here is the reply to your last message:
I know what you mean. When we lived in Pittsburgh, I visited my Aunt Jean's grave and when I got the e-mail from "Jean Drescher" I thought...the spirits are e-mailing now?
Ask anything you want. When my mother graduated from high school, one of her sisters needed some money for something. So Granddad gave them all the girls a certain amount of money. Ten thousand, I think. So my mother used hers to go to Duquesne University. At the end of her junior year, her money ran out so she dropped out of college. She had a friend that worked in Washington DC, and told her that the FBI was hiring clerks. She applied and got a job that moved her there. She was staying in a boarding house, and met my dad at that boarding house. He worked for the Army - Civil Service. They were married in 1964. My sister Elizabeth Karen Lewis was born October 8, 1965. She has not married. My brother Loren Michael Lewis was born April 11, 1967. He has married and divorced, no children. I was born July 18, 1969, Jean Marie Lewis. I was married on January 23, 1988 to Kenneth Lee Cox of Montgomery, Alabama. We have one daughter, Lura (not Laura) Elaine Cox who was born June 12, 1996. When I was 6 months old, my father was transfered to somewhere in Illinois. Then when I was about 3 years old he was transfered to Geneva New York, where my younger sister was born, Jody Elaine Lewis February 16, 1973. After that he was stationed in Kentucky, Tennessee, Korea (one year - we lived in Pittsburgh while he was there), Texas, Arizona, back to Korea (by this time I had graduated from high
school and joined the Navy, but Jody stayed with Grandma, Aunt Helen and Rose Mary), Nevada...and then he retired. He purchased his fathers home, after his death, from his brothers and sister (they were to split the profit) and they live there now. Burlington, NC. I suppose if my dad died tomorrow, God forbid, she wouldn't stay. She would either move to Pittsburgh, or come to Montgomery.
When I joined the Navy, I met Kenny, we married, and stayed in the Navy for 8 years. We were stationed in Millington, TN for training, then Sunnyvale/Mountain View CA (SF Bay area), then New Orleans, and then got out to have a family and moved to my husbands home town. I really didn't have any roots to speak of, so moving to Montgomery didn't bother me. Kenny works at a local Technical college and I am a "Maintenance Planner" for a BIG LOTS distribution center. (I get to boss around a bunch of mechanics, it's actually a lot of fun.)
Jody lived with Kenny and I since she was 16. She was miserable in Pittsburgh. She loves Helen and Rosie, and loved Grandma, but living with a couple of spinsters and a 90 year old was not exactly the kind of place that a beautiful 16 year old wants to be. Kenny and I volunteered to keep her and she has been with us ever since. When we transfered to New Orleans, it was right after her High School Graduation, so that worked out. She went to college
in New Orleans and graduated from college right as we decided to settle in Montgomery. She moved to Montgomery, lives very close to our home. After Lura Elaine "Lainey" was born, Elizabeth moved to Montgomery too. My brother lives in Burlington, near my parents.
Jody works in the Civil litigation office of the Attorney General of Alabama. Beth installs WAN networks for the Air Force (as a government contractor). Mike is a maintenance man in NC but I couldn't say which company.
There it is. I can gather all the info on Dorothy's, Kay's, Barbara's, George's, and John Paul's kids, my first cousins, and send it to you. I am not close to any of them, with all the moving my family did, the only memory of my cousins is the 1 year that we lived in Pittsburgh, and the occasional family picnic "Up the mountains" and in West Virginia when I was a kid. Don't get me wrong, I know all their first names, and could probably pick them out of a line up, but I don't know their birthdays or middle names.
What kind of info to you have? I was working on family tree stuff for a mural in my daughters room that never happened. I started helping my husband's aunt research their family, which is a lot easier to do when your line has been in the US for 200 years. After we got to 10 generations with his family, I started on mine. I have not been able, however, to find anything past Casper. Mom said that Casper came over after going AWOL from the German Army in the 1890's, and two of his brothers came with him. She said that Casper stayed in Pittsburgh, but the brothers went to California and changed the spelling of their names. I got 1 more generation further on Grandma's side, but then in WV Foster seems to be as generic a name as Smith. There are too many of them to filter out.
I look forward to hearing from you.
