Felkner / Ammon / Dressler
Daniel Bly letter to L. Ellingham [e-mail, Dec 2001], an extract: ?? Andreas was in what is now Shenandoah County as early as 1762 when we find him taking over the land settled by Jacob Ammon on Funks Mill Run (now Tumbling Run).Ammon and wife Elizabeth deeded their tract of land in exchange fora promise to take care of them in their lifetime. It is almost certain that Dressler's wife, Maria was a daughter of the Ammons. In the Strasburg Lutheran Church records we also find that in a communion list from 1775, old Mrs. Elizabetha Dorothea Ammon is called "Felkner's mother-in-law" ? Henry Felkner was an elder in the Church and so I guess she got a little extra note added after her name ? so Rosina Felkner, Henry's wife, was a sister to Maria, wife of Andreas Dressler.Eventually David Dressler (also appears as Tressler) sold the 90 acre tract to my ancestor John Hamman about 1816 and it eventually wound up in possession of Hamman's son-in-law, William Bly ? my great-great grandfather.Hamman, William Bly and other family members are buried in a cemetery on the hill above the old home place ? until recently the old stone chimney was still standing. There are some unidentified graves in this graveyard, marked only by field stones ? I am sure they are the graves of the earliest owners, the Ammons and Dresslers.?
