I'm thrilled to see this Drieberg message board! I am descended from the first Drieberg to come to Ceylon, Johannes Gerardus Drieberg who came from Rotterdam with the Dutch East India Company.
According to the Dutch Burgher Union Journal (Vol 34, No 1, July 1944), the first Drieberg to come to Ceylon was: Johannes Gerardus Drieberg, Handlanger by de Artillerie (Cadet Bombadier), who married in the Dutch Reformed Church, Wolvendaal, Colombo, on 21 September 1783, Johanna Catharina Horn of Tuticorin, India. (There was a Dutch settlement there).
The Marriage Index of the Wolvendaal Church confirms that the first Marriage of a Drieberg, was that of Johannes Gerardus Drieberg of Colombo, artillery asst & Johanna Catharina Hoorn of Tuticorin, on 21 September 1783.
There are 12 Drieberg connections in N. America, descended from Johannes Gerardus Drieberg and Catharina Horn:
1. Andrew Bertram Clifford Drieberg m. Barbara Delaya. Their children are: Glen, Dale, Russ.
2. Justin Fredrick Schokman Drieberg m. Ivy Sarah Margaret Nicholas. Their children are: Aloma, Keith, Denver.
3. Denzil Carol Drieberg m. Marjorie Nugara. Their children are: Tremayne, Sherwin, Dirk.
Many of us who have a connection to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) are descended from the same common ancestor! I would love to hear from any Driebergs anywhere. Reply to: firstname.lastname@example.org
