Norah,
Thanks for passing along your site. It looks great! I found a little more information on my Droney's. I found them in the 1910 census and saw that John Droney was listed as 50 which would have placed his date of birth between April 1859 and April 1860. The census also listed his immigration date as 1892. His wife, Mary Gorman, was listed as being 42 at the time putting her date of birth around 1868, 7 years later than I had originally thought. Their three children listed, John, 16, Joseph, 13, and Morris, 8 were all born in NY.
Curious information on this census, though, is a gentleman living with them, Michael Gorman, 69, who I can only assume to be Mary Gorman's father. Also, listed as their country of birth is Eng-Ireland. No one in our family has ever talked about any other place but County Clare (Miltown Malbay in particular) so this raises some questions.
Our request for a genealogy search from County Clare is in the process of being completed and I hope to have a finished product by the end of the year. They said that the Gorman side was very easy to trace but the Droney's were giving them some difficulties (yup, that sounds like us). When the final product comes through I will be sure to pass the info along to you.
Take care and thanks for all you have done.
Sean Droney
