Just getting started here at Gene'.com although as you can see I'm a Drumm.
My family is from Perry/Licking Co.s Ohio and my grandfather Clyde (father of nine, my dad youngest Paul) is the furthest I can seem to find in the line.
From stories/comments I had heard thoughout my younger years we were coal miners... assuming WV. There were other comments about starting the first church in WV and in contrast... have the first alcohol still in WV also. Some poking around on that puts them from eastern WV and Maryland. My grandmother (Mary or Margret Quinn I believe) had a line from VA near the James River.
But the point is.. the WV coal mines were a tough place to be. I recently watched a documentary on PBS about the subject with experts from the eastern KYU, a very depressing time for families in general. I imagine that's why there are not many records from through that period.
