Obit: Amanda Theresa (Duba) Allwin
AMANDA THERESA ALLWIN
Amanda Theresa Allwin, 95, passed away peacefully in her home, Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 on what would have been her 75th wedding anniversary. Amanda was born in Martin, North Dakota on March 2, 1907 to Charles and Anna Duda. She was the sixth of eleven children. She was the first one of the family to graduate from High School and went on to become a teacher. She married John Allwin in Annamoose, North Dakota on August 2, 1927. They then moved to Sweetgrass, Montana and later to Laurel where John worked at the Cenex Refinery. She resided in her home in Laurel until her death.
Amanda loved her garden and her flowers. She was a charter member of the Unity Garden Club for 62 years. She also belonged to a "coffee ladies" group who met every week since 1944. She worked for many families in Laurel and Billings caring for their children. She lived for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The babies were her greatest joy.
She is survived by her three children: Chuck (Carole) Allwin of Kearney, NE, Amy (Bruce) Swanson of Laurel, Dennis (Gloria) Allwin of Laurel, and daughter-in-law Joan Allwin of Independence, MO, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; two sisters: Alvina Joos of Hopkins, MN and Sylvia Reshel of Mequon, WI and two sisters-in-laws: Lillian Duda of Pine City, MN and Helen Duda of Hopkins, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1960; Son, Vernon, in 1977; Grandson, Ross Allwin in 1996; five brothers and three sisters.
Amanda was a member of Saint Anthony's Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of Altar Society.
