Dear Suzanne, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your quick responses and particularly for all the work you've been doing in the archives. This is a tremendous help to me and to others of Dubuque lineage!Your suggestions are excellent and I hope to be doing some research here in the stateside archives soon- I'll get back to you if I find anything of value. Also, over the years I have come across references to others with the Dubuque surname who are probably not closely related to me if at all, but may be of some interest.Julien Dubuque of the Iowa lead mines is the best known, but another man of this same name emigrated from France at the time of the French Revolution and established Julien's Restorator, supposedly the first real restaurant (as opposed to tavern, etc.) in Boston. There was also a Jemima Debuke in the Boston area earlier- she married a Winslow- a dual portrait of the couple was painted by John Singleton Copley, I believe in the 1760s.There was also a blacksmith by the name of Dubuc living in Shelburne VT in the late 19th/early 20th century- his shop is now in the Shelbune Museum and operated as a working forge.I have also been TOLD- without any written reference- that there was an admiral by the name of Dubuque (I can't vouch for the spelling) who served under de Grasse at the time of the American Revolution. The others I have read about only in secondary sources so I can't verify their accuracy, but I have no reason to doubt them.Basically, I'm just tossing the information out there as a matter of interest, or as a starting point for those interested in researching them.Once again Suzanne, THANK YOU so much for all your help!Best wishes, Rob Dubuque.
