Sharon,
I am not sure how much travelling you are planning to do on the trip, but if you can make it up to Kaukauna, the Grignon house is the first land grant in Wisconsin. It was bought from the Native Americans by Dominique Ducharme, then later sold to the Grignons. There is a nice little museum with guided tours there. I am not sure if it is the same Dominique (there were 2 - one was an uncle, I believe, to the other.) But if you want some more information on this branch of the family, I have some. The county museum in Appleton also has some exhibits of the Grignon House. But both of these are a ways from Beaver Dam. Happy Hunting!
Paul Marquardt
