Hi Rosemary. I found WWI enlistment papers for a John Ducharme of Boissevain, born Cut Arm Creek, father Joseph, however it listed his birthdate as 28 Jul 1889. So, I "think" this is the same John Ducharme as yours, but I am not possitive. Anyway, if is is him I think I found him in the 1916 Manitoba Census (Souris, Manitoba):

Joseph Ducharme age 60
Rose " 58 wife
Frederick " 28
John " 26
Emma " 23
William " 19

John's birthdate, calculated from his census age would be 1890, so that is close. I did find a marriage for a Joseph Ducharme & Rose:

Joseph Ducharme s/o Dominique & Sophie Henault
m. 11 Feb 1879 Ste-Anne, Manitoba
Rose Nolin d/o John & Julie Martin dite Lavallee

I don't know for sure if this is your Joseph & Rose. I did find a document from a Joseph Ducharme, b. 22 Nov 1857 Ste-Anne, where he lists his father Dominique as french-canadian and his mother Sophie Henault as Metis (mixed blood indian/french). His birthdate goes well with his age on the 1916 census too. I also found another document listing Rose Nolin b. 28 Aug 1857 d/o John & Julie Lavallee, and in this case both parents are listed as Metis.

I hope this is helpful to you! Email me at and I can send you the census record and enlistment record if you don't have them. Annie
