Thanks so much for your help Pierre & Annie. The only sure identification of John I have so far is tied to his regimental army number 2128944 and of course his father's name, Joseph. Both these facts are listed on his army enlistment papers and also on his marriage certificate from October 1918 in England when he married Violet Bennett.
I have also found Violet on Canadian Passenger Lists on board 'Scotian' 2 August 1919 from Liverpool to Quebec with the same regimental number listed for her. (Must have been a boatload of new English brides being sent to Canada as all on board appear to be women with regimental numbers!) They have transcribed Violet Bennett Ducharme as Violet annett Ducharme on the site, but the regimental number is John's. I signed up last night for the ancestry worldwide so I can search the Canadian census etc but am an amateur at this so really appreciate your kind help! Merci.PS Do you have a death listed for the John mentioned above?
